Polk VINELink Release Coverage
NC SAVAN is North Carolina’s Statewide Automated Victim Assistance and Notification service, delivered online through VINELink and by telephone. It can carry custody and supervision events supplied by participating county and state agencies. For Polk County, that makes it useful for watching a specific detention or corrections record. It is an alert and status service, not a court ruling and not the sheriff’s release sheet.
A Polk County Detention Center record belongs to the sheriff. A state prison, probation, parole, or post-release supervision record belongs to NCDAC. VINELink may redistribute an event from either stream. If the person leaves Polk custody for NCDAC, the county event can reflect departure from the jail while state custody continues. The destination on the sheriff record determines whether the event was a community release or a transfer.
NC SAVAN can also carry probation and post-release supervision events. That wider scope is useful after a prison term, but it creates a need for careful wording. “Active Probationer/Parolee” describes community supervision, not confinement in a state prison. A supervision event is not the same as the earlier Polk jail release, and it may arrive under the DAC identifier rather than the county identifier.
Federal records fall outside this state service. A federal sentence is checked through the BOP Inmate Locator. ICE’s locator answers a current immigration-custody question and is not a historical release database. The source system must match the custody being checked.
Search Polk Inmates on VINELink
Begin with the agency and offender number shown on the most recent reliable record. A county jail ID is not a DAC offender number. When only a name is known, use all available identifying details and compare more than one field before selecting a result. Similar names can belong to different people, and a sounds-like or broad name match is only a lead.
- Open VINELink and select North Carolina as the state.
- Search the full name or enter the offender ID tied to the Polk jail or NCDAC episode.
- Review the possible matches. Compare the offender number, age or birth information, facility, agency, and other displayed identifiers.
- Open only the record that matches the known custody episode.
- Read the custody status, agency, facility or location, and any available release or custody-change event.
- Save the offender number and named agency before registering or seeking confirmation.

The state selection and person-specific search are the starting point, but the resulting agency and ID are what connect an alert to the correct Polk County or NCDAC record.
If several records share the same name, stop before registering. Compare stable details and return to the sheriff booking record or DAC history for the right offender number. The county admissions search can establish that a booking occurred, but it cannot prove the later release because Polk’s rendered Citizen Connect page has no release control. A court case number can help reconcile identity, although the court file usually does not establish the exact physical exit time.
Note: Save the exact offender ID because the same person can have separate Polk jail and NCDAC records with separate alerts.
Polk VINELink Release Fields
A VINELink result may show the person’s custody status, contributing agency, facility or location, offender ID, and an available release or custody-change event. The exact fields depend on what the agency supplies. A displayed release date should be labeled with the interface’s own terms. It should not be converted into a claim about a court disposition, full sentence completion, or freedom from every other custodian.

For a Polk jail exit, request the sheriff booking-and-release record to obtain the actual exit or transfer entry. For a North Carolina prison discharge, compare the VINELink result with NCDAC OPI. OPI includes current and historical state records, but it does not include an ordinary county-jail-only booking. The two sources complement each other.
A “released” status should be reported as the contributing agency’s event. If the named agency is Polk County, ask whether the method was bond, court order, sentence completion, or transfer and request the destination when one is recorded. If the agency is NCDAC, look for the actual prison release history and any active community-supervision status. VINELink does not decide the legal meaning of a disposition, so a dismissal, judgment, or bond order still comes from the Polk court record.
Register Polk Release Notifications
Registration begins from the matched offender record, not from a general county list. Available channels can include telephone, email, text, and TTY. Choose the event offered for that record and keep the confirmation. Telephone registration uses a four-digit PIN when prompted. The PIN tells the automated service that the message was received and can stop repeat calls.
- Select notification or event registration from the correct offender record.
- Choose the covered event and an available phone, email, text, or TTY channel.
- Enter the contact details with care and review them before confirming.
- Create or confirm the four-digit PIN when the system requests one.
- Retain the confirmation and offender ID. Keep the PIN private and easy to recall.
- When a telephone alert arrives, listen to the message and enter the PIN as directed.
The state automated line is 1-877-627-2826. Program assistance is listed at 866-719-0108, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Official material states that registration is free. Interface labels can change, so follow the current prompts rather than relying on an old button name.
Telephone alerts may continue until the PIN is entered. That is why a registrant should use a PIN that is memorable but not shared. Email and text delivery depend on the contact details remaining current. Retain the registration confirmation and repeat the process if a later source reveals a second offender number. A notice cannot arrive for an ID that was never registered.

Confirm Polk VINELink Releases
VINELink warns that accuracy, timeliness, and completeness are not guaranteed. An alert can arrive after the agency event, and a public status can lag. Record the offender ID, agency, event, and date exactly as supplied. Then confirm with the contributor. For a Polk County Detention Center event, call the sheriff at 828-894-3001 or request the booking-and-release sheet. For a DAC event, use OPI or NCDAC’s official records channel.
A person missing from Polk Citizen Connect is not proven released. That county service displays current confinements and admission searches, but Polk does not enable a release search. A VINELink event is stronger corroboration, yet the sheriff record remains the best source for the physical county exit time, method, and destination. Use the BOP locator when the custody is federal. Use ICE ODLS only for a present immigration-custody question. Check the court file for a dismissal, bond order, judgment, or sentence, but do not treat the court entry as the exact jail-door time. Each system owns a separate event.
When records disagree, give the event owner priority. The Polk sheriff owns the county confinement exit or transfer. NCDAC owns the state prison and supervision status. The Clerk owns the judicial disposition. VINELink redistributes contributed events and should be confirmed with that contributor. Different dates may be valid because booking, court authorization, administrative release, transport, state intake, and supervision start are separate moments.
Note: A no-result in one system is not universal proof of release because county, state, federal, and immigration agencies keep separate records.
Polk SAVAN Dual-ID Alerts
No separate Polk-only SAVIN portal was verified. The distinctive local issue is the transition from a Polk County jail identifier to a DAC offender number when a person enters state custody. NCDAC expressly advises registration under both numbers when both exist. Separate agencies can send separate event streams, so registration on only the county number can miss a later state event.
Suppose the sheriff record says a person was transferred to NCDAC. The Polk event can trigger first because the person left county custody. Intake then creates or activates the DAC record. A later state prison release or supervision event belongs to that DAC number. Keeping both confirmations lets the recipient identify which custodian generated each notice and prevents a transfer alert from being mistaken for community release.
The same rule works in reverse when records conflict. Compare the ID and agency on the alert, then ask that agency about its event. Do not merge the records merely because names match. Stable IDs, date of birth, case details, and custody dates should agree before the events are attributed to one person.
If only the county ID is known, preserve it in the sheriff records request and ask whether the release entry names NCDAC as the destination. If it does, search OPI for the state record after intake and register that DAC number separately. If the transfer instead names another county, ICE, or the U.S. Marshals Service, follow that named custodian. A second SAVAN registration is useful only when an actual DAC record exists.
