Polk County Detention Center Destinations
A person may leave the Polk County Detention Center for the community after bond, a written promise, a release order, dismissal, time served, or completion of a local sentence. Staff must resolve every controlling case and hold before that exit. The sheriff booking-and-release record is the local source for the actual release time and method, while a court order or judgment supplies the legal basis.
Other exits are transfers. Delivery to the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction means Polk County custody ended but state custody began. A transfer to another county, the U.S. Marshals Service, or U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has the same key limit: the person left this facility without necessarily entering the community. The release or transfer entry should identify the destination to the extent maintained and public.
Confirm Polk Detention Center Releases
The official Citizen Connect page narrows the first question: does the person still appear as currently confined, or can a recent admission be found? Its public Polk configuration offers no release search. A missing result is therefore a reason to continue checking, not proof of a community exit.
- Search current confinements with the exact name. Review recent admission views only to identify the booking episode.
- Save the booking number, admission date, name spelling, and any other stable identifier.
- Request the existing sheriff booking-and-release record for that confinement, including release time, method, authority, and destination.
- Check Polk eCourts records for the order, dismissal, judgment, bond action, or commitment that may explain the event.
- Follow a named NCDAC, county, USMS, or ICE destination in that custodian's system.
- Use NC SAVAN or VINELink as an alert and status lead, then confirm with the contributing agency.

Polk Detention Center Roster Limits
Polk Citizen Connect renders Current Confinements, Get Last 24 Hour Admits, Get Last 7 Days Admits, Admits by Date Range, Charges, and Arresting Agency. The two admission controls show entry into custody, not release. There is no enabled 24-hour or 72-hour release list, and no public release-result field inventory.

Polk Detention Center Release Records
A focused request should identify one booking and ask for existing fields. Useful items include the booking or confinement number, admission and release date-times, release method or reason, releasing authority, transfer destination, charges, court process or case numbers, bond data, and the booking photograph. Full name, date of birth, aliases, and agency ID help separate people with similar names.

Not every field is guaranteed to exist or be public. If a broad request fails, narrow it to the booking sheet, release entry, transfer-log entry, or photograph. Ask for a written legal basis when part of the record is withheld and for the rest of the public material to be supplied.
Polk Detention Center Records Contact
The Polk County Sheriff's Office is the first custodian for the county confinement event. Its official records page lists booking records among requestable public records. The online portal provides the documented electronic path, while the detention telephone can address a prompt status question subject to staff limits.

Request an estimate before work that could result in a charge, and ask which adopted retention schedule and record-series title controls the file.

A narrow request tied to one booking is more precise than asking the sheriff to decide whether an entire court case is complete.
Polk Detention Center Release Orders
A jail record and court record prove different parts of the event. Search the North Carolina eCourts Portal by name or case number and limit the location to Polk County when appropriate. Review the register of actions, filed dismissal, judgment, sentence, bond or release order, and later entries. The Polk Clerk can provide public documents at the courthouse.
A dismissal can remove authority to hold someone on the named charge, but another charge, warrant, sentence, or detainer may still control. A time-served judgment identifies the sentence and credit, yet does not state the minute jail processing ended. The sheriff release sheet supplies that physical exit or transfer time.
The records should be matched by name, date of birth, case number, charge, booking date, and other stable details. A court order entered earlier and a jail exit logged later are not necessarily in conflict. They may record different stages of the same release process.
Polk Detention Center NCDAC Transfers
When the Polk County Detention Center record says transferred to NCDAC, describe the person as released from Polk custody to state custody. Do not call that event a community release. Intake information can take time to appear, so retain both the county booking number and any DAC offender number.
Use the NCDAC Offender Public Information Search. Search by DAC number when known, or combine name with date of birth, age range, status, and other fields. Compare the matching record's identity, sentence, county and case history, admission information, and later release or supervision details. OPI covers state prison, probation, and parole history dating to 1972; it does not absorb ordinary Polk-only jail records.

Note: A DAC offender number belongs to the state episode and should not be substituted for the Polk County booking number.
Polk Detention Center Custody Transfers
A release entry naming ICE, the U.S. Marshals Service, or another county records a change of custodian. Contact the receiving county when it is named. For a USMS transfer, federal court records can show a detention or release order, BOP can become relevant after designation, and USMS has a records-request route. There is no public USMS historical locator equal to the BOP locator.
ICE Online Detainee Locator is for a person believed to be in current ICE custody. A no-result may reflect data timing, spelling, eligibility rules, transfer, or a different custodian. It is not a discharge certificate and cannot prove the person returned to the community. Follow any facility or field office identified by the Polk transfer record.
If a later BOP result shows Released or Not in BOP Custody with a past release date, it confirms that BOP custody ended. It does not resolve a state, local, immigration, or supervision status. Each later custodian owns its own event.
Detention Center Release Facility
The official Polk County Detention Center page says the county jail opened in September 2018. It has 60 beds, divided into 45 male and 15 female beds. Capt. M. Herman and Lt. T. Case are listed as detention contacts. The published telephone is 828-894-3001.

Capacity is a facility fact, not a release count. It cannot support an annual turnover estimate or average stay. No verified annual release total was found.
Detention Center Release Logistics
No official release-processing hours, exit door, family waiting location, weekend or holiday procedure, local bond schedule, or inmate-property-at-release procedure was found. Call the detention center instead of relying on Sunday on-site visiting hours, which run from 1 to 4 p.m. Visiting hours are not release hours.
The magistrate office is off the detention lobby and lists 828-894-4919, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It can address its own court and bond functions. It is not the custodian of the sheriff release log, and its hours should not be represented as jail-release hours.
PayTel and Inmate Canteen serve people currently confined. They do not verify a completed release. The Sheriff's Evidence and Property Division also has a separate process for investigative, found, and safekeeping property, which does not establish how jail belongings are returned.
Detention Center Release Reconciliation
When sources disagree, give priority to the agency that owns the event. The Polk sheriff controls the local admission, release, and transfer record. The Clerk controls the disposition and judgment. NCDAC controls state prison and state community-supervision status. BOP controls the end of BOP custody, while VINELink republishes events and should be checked with the contributor.

Dates may refer to arrest, booking, order entry, administrative release, transport, prison intake, projected release, actual prison release, or supervision discharge. Label each date by the source's term. That discipline prevents a correct court date and a later jail-processing time from being treated as an error.
